Facts from the source article.
Premise
The series takes place in a desert location called Wolf Circus, where Popee the clown and his wolf sidekick Kedamono rehearse circus acts. Their rehearsals frequently go wrong, escalating into violent or surreal situations. In the second season, Popee's father Papi, the senior clown, joins as an instructor, but his lessons often worsen the chaos.
Production
Ryuji Masuda created the show to fill a five-minute slot on Kids Station, with production beginning three months before the premiere. The low budget of 100,000 yen per month meant no voice actors were used, and the desert setting avoided complex rendering. The team consisted of Ryuji Masuda, Wakako Masuda, and a 3D animator from a video game company. Each episode took 9 to 13 days to animate, with shortcuts like reusing patterns and scenes. The 27th episode, "Knife Game," was not aired due to fears children would imitate the game. A manga adaptation was made by Wakako Masuda.
Reception
The series has been described as a twisted mockery of children's shows and a dark, messed-up series due to its violence and unintentional horror, with an offputting visual style. In Japan, it has been called a trauma anime and a show that should not be searched online. Despite lacking dialogue, it was praised for comedic appeal, and Screen Rant called it disturbing, nonsensical, and utterly cursed. Comparisons have been made to Looney Tunes and Tom and Jerry for its slapstick and silent comedy.
