Characters

Ken Washio, at twenty-four, is the senior member of the quartet of heroes and serves as their commander. He often scolds Emi for her unruly behavior and is committed to rescuing her while fixing the worlds that Z has wrecked. His ability lets him become Gatchaman G-01. In his initial clash with Z, he forces him to lose hold of the Case, which then falls into Emi's possession. Jouji Minami, twenty-two, is an astronaut in his own dimension, searching for a new world for his species to colonize. He battles as Tekkaman, wearing the Tekset armor and wielding a double-bladed lance. Takeshi Yoroi, twenty, used to be an agent and can change into Hurricane Polymar by using a special polymer that grants him extraordinary abilities. After Z annihilates his universe, he spends a year working as a detective in Shibuya before encountering Emi and the other heroes. Tetsuya Azuma, seventeen, is the youngest of the group. In his home world, his father turned him into an android named Casshan to combat other androids threatening humanity; after that world is destroyed, he links up with the other heroes and Emi, accompanied by his robot dog Friender. Emi Kaidou is the central figure, a seventeen-year-old who lives by herself after her father departed for unknown reasons. When she meets the four heroes, she acquires the Case, a wish-granting artifact that turns into a large pencil in her hands, mirroring her love for drawing. It later comes out that she is Z's daughter. Z, whose true name is Kazumichi Kaido, is Emi's father and the primary villain. He seizes the Case and ruins other worlds to fulfill his goal of shielding Emi, having learned that in every parallel reality she is fated to die horribly in front of him. In his grip, the Case becomes a small sun. Raja Kaan is also referenced. Damian Grey is an enigmatic, flashy individual who approaches Takeshi and pays him to locate the Case, later unmasking himself as a monstrous being who wants the Case to achieve ultimate evil. Belle Lynn hails from a dying race of non-humans and seeks powerful genetic material to restore her people; she allies with Z, intending to take his genes, but upon discovering he is no longer human, she turns on Emi instead.
