Background
Assigned to kill the rogue North Korean agent Zao, who is undergoing gene-replacement therapy at a clinic in Cuba, she meets Bond the night before and has sex with him, telling him her nickname comes from being born on Friday the 13th. When Bond interrupts her attempt at the clinic and Zao escapes by helicopter, she strips to her bikini and dives backwards off a wall into the ocean, a scene shot in Cádiz as a homage to Honey Ryder in Dr No; costume designer Lindy Hemming insisted on the bikini and knife.
She tracks Zao to Gustav Graves's diamond mine in Iceland and his Ice Palace, where she fails again, is interrogated by Zao and strapped to a laser machine by his henchman Mr Kil; Bond rescues her and they kill Kil with his own machine. Having admitted she is an NSA agent, she teams up with Bond, but is betrayed by the MI6 operative Miranda Frost, the real double agent, who locks her in Bond's suite to drown as Graves melts the palace with his Icarus satellite.
Rescued for the second time, Jinx and Bond infiltrate a North Korean airbase on the orders of Damian Falco and M to assassinate Graves, who escapes. They board his plane via its landing gear and split up; Frost ambushes her in the cockpit, but as the plane disintegrates in the Icarus beam, killing Graves, Jinx overpowers Frost and impales her on a knife, and she and Bond escape in a helicopter from the cargo hold with Graves's diamonds.
MGM planned a Jinx spin-off for late 2004 but pulled the plug in 2003, to the fury of Eon's Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson; executive Chris McTurk later said he killed it for fear a failure would damage the whole franchise. Mattel issued a Bond Barbie based on her and Revlon a 007 cosmetics line. She returned in the 2012 game 007 Legends with another actress's likeness, and an ITV poll voted her the fourth-toughest Bond girl.
