Lore & Background

Conspiracies is set in a futuristic 21st century where human society is threatened by a destroyed natural environment, overpopulation, poverty, organized crime, and increasing forms of depression and neurological diseases. Earth has dissolved into a single federation of cities, with Greece as one city-state. Beneath the surface, political lobbies, big companies, and organized crime impose their own will. The protagonist, Nick Delios, was a top student at the University of Thessaloniki specializing in medical software, but his career derailed when his research on electronic transplants programming was stolen by his team head, Dimitris Argyriou. After his wedding to Dimitris' sister Annita was cancelled, Delios became a detective specializing in industrial espionage. Police Inspector Thanos Pekas, an old friend, asks him to help solve a murder case, which leads to multiple conspiracies surpassing the planet's borders.

Reader's Guide

Conspiracies holds historical significance as the first Greek adventure game to achieve an international retail release, marking a milestone for the Greek video game industry. Developed by Anima Interactive, it launched the Conspiracies series and demonstrated the potential for small independent studios to reach global audiences. The game received mixed reviews according to Metacritic, with criticism focusing on its convoluted plot and gameplay. Computer Gaming World compared its quality to a B movie, while PC Gamer awarded it a 23% rating, prompting a public exchange between the developer's CEO and the reviewer. Despite its mixed reception, the game's international release paved the way for its sequel, Conspiracies II - Lethal Networks, which was released in March 2011 after eight years in development hell. The game's legacy lies in its role as a pioneering title for Greek game development and its place in the niche of FMV adventure games.
