Lore & Background
Conspiracies II is set in the year 2062, several months after the first game. Earth has joined the Peripheral Galactic Alliance, a conglomerate of alien governments. Players control Nick Delios, a former private investigator turned government secret agent, who is framed for the attempted murder of his ex-fiancé Annita Argyriou, president of Detronics S.A. The story involves uncovering hidden agendas and corruption within the Alliance that threaten the universe.
Gameplay combines first-person 3D navigation, clue searching, and inventory puzzles, with some items that can be taken apart or combined. It also adds action elements such as climbing, crouching, physics-based pushing/pulling, and vehicle driving. Unlike the first game, Conspiracies II includes game over screens requiring reloading from a saved game. The plot unfolds across twelve chapters and offers a single ending.
Development began in late 2004 after the commercial success of the first game, with a projected release of mid-2008. However, the game entered development hell for eight years after the lead programmer quit, forcing the team to rebuild the real-time graphics engine from scratch. It eventually released in March 2011.
Reader's Guide
Conspiracies II – Lethal Networks received mixed reviews upon release. Critics noted amateurish acting, exposition-heavy dialogue, unintuitive environments, and a fussy interface, yet acknowledged that beneath these flaws lay a substantial game. GameBoomers gave it a B−, calling it a 'messy' game that felt like a chore. Adventure Gamers rated it 3 out of 5 stars, stating it would not revive flagging interest in FMV adventures but would appeal to fans of live-action adventures and futuristic sci-fi mysteries. The game's significance lies in its attempt to modernize the FMV genre with 3D graphics and action elements, and as a rare Greek-developed title in the adventure game market. Its legacy is as a cult curiosity for FMV enthusiasts, representing the challenges of indie development and the persistence of a niche genre.
