Gameplay
The game presented a third-person perspective and allowed players to move freely through the world. Its distinguishing feature was a system of five world types, also called campaigns: Eternal Kingdoms, God's Reach, The Infected, The Shadow, and Dregs. Each world was procedurally generated and followed a seasonal cycle from spring through summer and fall to winter, at which point the campaign ended and the world disappeared permanently, though players could travel to other worlds. Campaigns could last 1, 3, or 6 months, or up to a year. Only the Eternal Kingdoms, which housed player housing, persisted. Players could choose from archetypes including Champion, Ranger, Druid, Confessor, Knight, Templar, Forgemaster, Frostweaver, Assassin, Myrmidon, Legionnaire, Duelist, and Stalker. At the start of a campaign, players appeared in a newly created world during spring, with villages, mines, resources, and ruins. The world map was initially fogged, requiring exploration. Using gathered resources, players could craft weapons and build castles and fortresses for defense. As summer began, resources became scarcer and monsters grew more powerful, a force called 'The Hunger' in lore. Campaign victory conditions and world rules varied by world. After a campaign ended, players could return to their Eternal Kingdom homes.
Development
The game was announced in January 2015 with a 40-day countdown timer and minimal details on its website. When the timer reached zero, the site linked to the official Kickstarter page, which included gameplay videos and further information. Within hours, the Kickstarter had reached half of its $800,000 goal. The game released on July 6, 2021, and was taken offline on November 22, 2022.
