Soyuz TMA-2

Soyuz TMA-2 delivered the Expedition Seven crew to the ISS.

Last updated

Soyuz TMA-2 was a Russian spacecraft that transported crew to the International Space Station. It was the second flight of the TMA modification and the sixth Soyuz mission to the ISS. The spacecraft carried the crew that became ISS Expedition Seven.

Mission highlights

Originally, Soyuz TMA-2 was planned as a taxi mission to deliver a new lifeboat spacecraft, with a visiting crew of commander Gennady Padalka and ESA astronaut Pedro Duque staying about one week. The third seat might have gone to Chilean Klaus von Storch, but even before the Columbia disaster his flight appeared unlikely, and the seat might have gone to Oleg Kotov or carried freight.

After the Columbia disaster, the mission became a crew exchange. During the stay, Malenchenko became the first person married in space; his bride was in Texas. The spacecraft returned on October 28 with the Expedition Seven crew and Pedro Duque, who had launched on Soyuz TMA-3 and spent one week aboard.
