Angela Lansbury
Dame Angela Lansbury: A legendary actress and singer whose career spanned 80 years, from MGM films to Broadway stardom and global fame as Jessica Fletcher.
Angela Lansbury was born on October 16, 1925, to an upper-middle-class family in Regent's Park, Central London.[1] From 1934 until 1939, Lansbury was a student at South Hampstead High School, where Glynis Johns was a fellow pupil.[2][3]

Life and work
After her father died when she was nine, Lansbury coped by playing characters.[2] She studied acting at the Webber Douglas School of Singing and Dramatic Art in Kensington, beginning in 1940.[1] She moved to Hollywood with her mother in 1942 and worked at a department store for $28 a week.[4] She terminated her MGM contract in 1952 and gave birth to her first child that same year.[5]
Lansbury debuted on Broadway in April 1957 at the Henry Miller Theatre in Hotel Paradiso.[5] At age 16, Lansbury secured her first paid theatrical engagement performing songs by Noël Coward at Montreal's Samovar Club, where she falsely stated she was 19.[4]
