Life and work
Soranus wrote that Hippocrates's father was Heraclides, a physician, and his mother was Praxitela.[2] Plato mentions Hippocrates in two dialogues, describing him as "Hippocrates of Kos, the Asclepiad"[3] The birth of Hippocrates is placed by historians around 460 BC on the Greek island of Kos.[4] The earliest biography of Hippocrates was written by Soranus of Ephesus, a Greek physician from the 2nd century, who provides nearly all known personal details about him.[4]
His death likely occurred in Larissa, with reported ages at death being 83, 85, or 90 years.[4]
