The fog here does not smell of rain or sea salt, but of old dust and forgotten names. Lyra pulled her scarf tighter, feeling the cold seep into her bones, a chill that had nothing to do with temperature. Iorek Byrnison's bear-form was tense, his golden eyes scanning the grey mist where shadows seemed to detach themselves from the ground.
