Irina Shidou
Issei's childhood friend from the Church who comes back as an angel.
Irina Shidou, also written Irina Shido, is a follower of the Church and Issei's childhood friend. Ichiei Ishibumi created her to stand for the Heaven and Church side of the three factions. Once a tomboy, she now wears her hair in twin tails, and she carries a Holy Sword that can turn into any shape its wielder wants.

Background
Irina is saddened that Issei has become a devil but still has feelings for him. In the Grigori storyline she is beaten by Freed Sellzen, who takes her Excalibur Mimic, and she is sent to the Church headquarters to recover. She returns as the Church's representative backing Michael at the summit, and from Volume 6 she joins Xenovia and Asia in what Issei calls the "Church Trio". In that volume she also becomes an angel of Ace rank who can throw spears of light, and she moves into Issei's home. Like Xenovia she can lack common sense: early on she spends their money on a fake painting of a saint and has to beg for food. In Volume 17 she gains a second pair of wings, and later she obtains her own Holy Sword, Hauteclere.
