Lore & Background
Arthur Hastings narrates all the stories. They include "The Adventure of the Western Star", in which the film star Mary Marvell is warned to return her diamond to the left eye of an idol; "The Tragedy at Marsdon Manor"; "The Adventure of the Cheap Flat"; "The Mystery of Hunter's Lodge", in which Poirot concludes that the housekeeper Mrs Middleton never existed; and "The Million Dollar Bond Robbery".
Reader's Guide
All of the stories were adapted as episodes of the ITV series Agatha Christie's Poirot, with David Suchet as Poirot, Hugh Fraser as Hastings and Philip Jackson as Japp; the televised plots differ from the originals. The UK first edition's dust jacket reprinted an illustration of Poirot from The Sketch of 21 March 1923.
