Gears 5: Hivebusters is a story expansion for the 2019 shooter Gears 5, made by The Coalition and released on December 15, 2020 for Windows, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S. It was the first single-player downloadable pack for Gears 5.

It tells the origin of Scorpio Squad, commandos who take on suicide missions to destroy Swarm Hives with lethal toxins.

Background

The six-chapter campaign is set in the South Islands of Sera, after the Locust Horde has returned as the Swarm. It serves as a direct prequel to the Gears of War: Hivebusters comic series.

The squad is made up of three characters from the Escape mode of Gears 5. Jeremiah Keegan of the elite Onyx Guard leads it, Lahni Kaliso is a COG operative from the South Islands' indigenous people, and Leslie "Mac" Macallister is an Outsider delivery driver who lost his son to the Swarm.

Reviewers praised the fast action, graphics and the banter between the cast, though some thought it too short.
