Fullmetal Alchemist and the Broken Angel

Background

It came out in Japan on December 25, 2003 and in North America on January 18, 2005. Broken Angel plays much like a 3D beat-em-up, with the player in control of Edward Elric. Besides using his metallic arm as a sword, Edward can transmute weapons to enhance his attack power and reach enemies he otherwise could not. Alphonse is computer-controlled, but holding the R1 button summons him to aid Edward, and when his health is depleted Edward can restore him by using alchemy on his armor. Winning experience from defeated enemies levels the brothers up, and accessories can enhance or hinder their performance.

The story sends the Elrics, travelling to Central with Major Alex Louis Armstrong, into the chimera-infested town of Heissgart after terrorists attack their train. There they meet Armony Eiselstein, a girl the chimeras leave alone, and her father Wilhelm, an alchemist researching the Philosopher's Catalyst, a material akin to the Philosopher's Stone. Armony turns out to be Wilhelm's daughter Selene fused with the catalyst, and his assistant Greta Riddle is really Camilla, a rogue alchemist after the catalyst for immortality.

The game sold well in Japan, but reviews were mixed, split over the graphics and gameplay, with praise for the cast and complaints that the twists were easy to predict.
