Fowlerichthys is a genus of marine ray-finned fish in the frogfish family Antennariidae. These fish live in the Atlantic, Indian, and Pacific Oceans. The genus is the sole member of the subfamily Fowlerichthyinae. The genus was created in 1941 by American zoologist Thomas Barbour, who named the type species *Fowlerichthys floridanus*. That species is now considered a junior synonym of *Antennarius radiosus*, described in 1896 by Samuel Garman from Key West, Florida. Some experts place *Fowlerichthys* in the subfamily Antennariinae, but the 5th edition of *Fishes of the World* does not recognize subfamilies within Antennariidae, classifying the family within the suborder Antennarioidei within the order Lophiiformes, the anglerfishes. A 2025 phylogenetic study found *Fowlerichthys* to be a distinct lineage from other frogfishes, leading to its classification in its own subfamily, Fowlerichthyinae, recognized by Eschmeyer's *Catalog of Fishes*. This subfamily is thought to be the sister group to all other Antennariidae lineages. A fossil relative, *†Neilpeartia* (named after Neil Peart), is known from the Early Eocene Monte Bolca site in Italy and is considered the sister genus to *Fowlerichthys*. Another fossil, *F. monodi*, is known from the Late Miocene of Algeria. The name *Fowlerichthys* honors American ichthyologist Henry Weed Fowler, who gave Barbour the type specimen of *F. floridanus*, combined with *ichthys*, Greek for fish. Five living species are recognized: *Fowlerichthys avalonis* (roughbar frogfish), *F. ocellatus* (ocellated frogfish), *F. radiosus* (singlespot frogfish), *F. scriptissimus* (calico frogfish), and *F. senegalensis* (Senegalese frogfish). A fossil species, *†Fowlerichthys monodi*, is known from the latest Miocene (Messinian) of Algeria; it was originally placed in *Antennarius* due to its apparent relation to the Senegalese frogfish but was reclassified when that species moved to *Fowlerichthys*. These frogfishes have globose, somewhat compressed bodies covered in dense, forked spinules. Their eyes sit on the sides of the head, and the upward-pointing mouth contains many small teeth. The illicium (fishing lure) lacks a distinct esca, and any spinules on it are at its base or along its front edge. The illicium is slightly shorter than the second dorsal spine.
