Fortnite seasonal events
Fortnite's seasonal events blend narrative, live concerts, and crossover content.
Fortnite is a free-to-play video game platform developed by Epic Games, originally released as the cooperative survival game Fortnite Save the World in July 2017. Its popularity surged after the September 2017 beta launch of Fortnite Battle Royale, a 100-player last-player-standing mode. Background
To monetize the game, Epic Games created an in-game storefront offering cosmetic items such as character skins and emotes, purchasable with V-Bucks. In December 2017, a time-limited battle pass was introduced, allowing players to earn customization items and V-Bucks through gameplay over a chapter lasting three to four months. Chapter 1 covered content from September 2017 to the battle pass launch. Starting with Season 4 in May 2018, Epic used in-game events to build a narrative structure explaining map changes.
Chief creative officer Donald Mustard stated that narrative was always part of the concept, but implementing it in a multiplayer game was challenging. Epic found that large end-of-chapter events could drive island changes for the next season. Subsequent chapters grouped seasons, each adding crossover content. A side-mode called Fortnite OG launched in December 2024, revisiting the first chapter with quality-of-life updates.
Seasonal content
Season 2, titled 'Showdown', ran from March to June 2026 and was rivalry themed. The Ice King returned alongside the Seven, and the Foundation was revealed frozen in ice with the Prisoner, Orelia, and Captain America in a trailer parodying Avengers: Doomsday. Players could choose to side with Team Foundation or Team Ice King, each offering a bonus style; the winning team's style unlocked for all battle pass owners at season's end. A Rivalries mechanic allowed players to earn Rivalry Credits by eliminating a randomly assigned rival after interacting with a Rivalry Board.
The Dark Voyager was shown reassembling the Zero Point, partnering with the Ice King, while the Foundation escaped and reunited with the Order, the Visitor, Jones, and Hope. In the 'Shattered' live event, the Ice King froze the Foundation after Team Ice King won the rivalry. The Dark Voyager betrayed and absorbed the Ice King, remaking the island. Loopers destroyed the Dark Voyager's spacecraft, but his plans remained unclear.
The Visitor revealed himself as Geno, the Dark Voyager's true master, and severely wounded Jones. Licensed characters included Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Lola Bunny, The Scouts, Kliff, Jon Snow, Daenerys Targaryen, the Night King, Drogon, Hercules, Megara, Hades, Dart Monkey, Tung Tung Tung Sahur, Ballerina Cappucina, Perry the Platypus, Dr. Doofenshmirtz, Balloony, Adam Smasher, Buzz Lightyear, Emperor Zurg, Aliens, Stone Cold Steve Austin, Liv Morgan, Sommerset, Reddysh, Moxie, Laufey, The Traveler, Ben Tennyson, Gwen Tennyson, Lois Griffin, Linda Belcher, Peggy Hill, Tracer, Genji, D.Va, Mercy, and Typical Gamer. Season 3, 'Runners', ran from June to August 2026.

Travis Scott performed a virtual 'Astronomical' tour in support of his 2018 album Astroworld across multiple live concerts from April 23 to 25, 2020, including a new song 'The Scotts' with Kid Cudi.
