Background
Regé-Jean Page, Justice Smith, Sophia Lillis and Hugh Grant co-star. The film has no ties to the earlier Dungeons & Dragons trilogy of 2000 to 2012. It spent years in development from 2013, first at Warner Bros. and then at Paramount, and Goldstein and Daley wrote the final script with Michael Gilio from a story by Chris McKay and Gilio. Filming began in April 2021 in Iceland and moved to Northern Ireland. It premiered at South by Southwest on March 10, 2023 and opened in the US on March 31. Critics praised the cast, humour and effects, but its $208.2 million gross against a $150 million budget made it a box office disappointment.
