Flowers first evolved between 150 and 190 million years ago, in the Jurassic. Plants with flowers replaced non-flowering plants in many ecosystems due to flowers' superior reproductive effectiveness. In the study of plant classification, flowers are a key feature used to differentiate plants. For thousands of years humans have used flowers for decoration, medicine, food, and perfumes. In human cultures, flowers are used symbolically and feature in art, literature, religious practices, ritual, and festivals.
In Their Own Story
The room is dim. A single desk lamp casts a warm cone of light over the PS Move, its light bar pulsing a soft, steady blue. You lift it slowly, the way you'd lift a sleeping bird. On the screen, the petal shivers. You tilt your wrist—just a few degrees—and a ribbon of wind curls out from the controller's tip, visible on-screen as a faint golden streak. The petal lifts. It drifts over a field of grey, withered grass, and where it passes, the blades straighten and blush green. You sweep the wand in a lazy arc. Three more petals detach from their stems and join the trail. No words. No instructions. Just the quiet click of the gyroscope reading your breath, and a world slowly remembering how to bloom.
