Valckx was born in Arcen, Limburg. He started professionally with VVV-Venlo (second division), moved in 1988 to PSV Eindhoven, and later played for Sporting Clube de Portugal. He returned to PSV and retired in June 2000 at nearly 37 years of age, with more than 500 official appearances.

Valckx earned 20 caps for the Netherlands and was part of the squad at the 1994 FIFA World Cup, playing four games. He made his debut on 26 September 1990 in a friendly against Italy. After playing, he worked as a technical director at PSV, then at Shanghai Shenhua FC, Wisła Kraków, and later returned to VVV as a technical advisor.
