Joop van Daele
The Rotterdam defender whose goal, and glasses, won the 1970 world club title.
Joop van Daele (14 August 1947 - 7 May 2025) was a Rotterdam-born defender who came into the Feijenoord youth ranks from local amateurs Overmaas in 1960 and stayed until 1977. He won the 1970 European Cup and scored the winner against Estudiantes in the home leg of the 1970 Intercontinental Cup.

As he celebrated that goal, Argentine players tore off his glasses, which Carlos Pachame allegedly smashed on the pitch; the episode inspired a Toon Hermans song, recorded by Luc Lutz after Van Daele turned it down, and a Johnny Hoes single asking where his glasses had gone. With the club he also won the 1974 UEFA Cup, the league in 1968-69, 1970-71 and 1973-74 and the 1968-69 KNVB Cup. He had a loan at Go Ahead Eagles, played for Fortuna Sittard and finished at Excelsior, later coaching at Fortuna, Excelsior and Papendrecht, and became a Feyenoord scout in 2006.
