Iskandar

The King of Conquerors, Waver Velvet's Rider in the Fourth Holy Grail War.

Iskandar, the King of Conquerors, is the Fate series' version of Alexander the Great. In the Fate/Zero story he is summoned as Rider in the Fourth Holy Grail War by Waver Velvet, the future Lord El-Melloi II, who stole his teacher's relic to call him so that the Magus Association would have to acknowledge his talent. Iskandar wants the Grail so that he can be reincarnated and take up his conquest of the world again.

Background

He respects Saber at first, but comes to judge her idea of kingship as a delusion and thinks she would do well as one of his followers. His Rider class comes from a chariot drawn by divine bulls, said to be a gift from Zeus, which appears when he cuts through the air with his Sword of the Kupriotes. His eccentric, domineering manner and his great power make trouble both for Waver and for their opponents, yet master and Servant grow close. Gilgamesh treats him as the only Servant who is truly his equal and invites him to fight as often as he likes; Iskandar dies in single combat against Gilgamesh and, in his last moments, finally reaches Oceanus, the place he had searched for all his life. Waver comes through the war with a wider view of the world, and reviewers praised the Fate/Zero dream sequence in which he looks back on his time with Iskandar.
