Overview
Inside Edition is broadcast in two formats: a weekday edition that runs for half an hour and includes a broad mix of news stories and feature segments, and a weekend edition titled Inside Edition Weekend (referenced on-air as Inside Weekend) that also runs half an hour and compiles stories from the previous week's weekday editions. On major weekday holidays, episodes may follow a format similar to the weekend edition, featuring compilations of past stories and occasional lifestyle-oriented pieces tied to holidays such as Independence Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. From 2002 to 2012, certain summer episodes also mixed feature packages from past episodes introduced by the anchor with current news stories introduced by a correspondent from the newsroom.
The program is based at the CBS Broadcast Center in Manhattan, which houses its main newsroom, production facilities, and the broadcast set. Some editions originate from the program's West Coast newsroom in Los Angeles, where L.A.-based correspondents sometimes introduce story packages, or from the studios of a carrying station or event sites. Inside Edition is transmitted live via satellite at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time on weekdays, with occasional updates made to account for new story details, timely news pieces, or corrections to technical or script issues.
On March 8, 2020, the day COVID-19 was declared a pandemic, the CBS Broadcast Center closed after building personnel tested positive for the virus, making Inside Edition one of the first programs directly affected. For the following week, Deborah Norville originated the program from her home kitchen. She subsequently shot remotely from her home with contributions from the Los Angeles newsroom, before establishing a dedicated virtual home studio with the entire staff working remotely, as the Los Angeles base was also affected by a stay-at-home order.
