Background
Set in 1995, it follows B-Rabbit's attempt to make his name in hip-hop, a genre dominated by African-American artists. The title comes from 8 Mile Road, the road between the mostly Black city of Detroit and the mostly white suburbs to its north. Universal Pictures released the film in the US on November 8, 2002; it was well reviewed and grossed $242.9 million worldwide. Its soundtrack, released through Interscope and Shady/Aftermath, was certified quadruple platinum by the RIAA, and 'Lose Yourself' won the Academy Award for Best Original Song for Eminem, Jeff Bass and Luis Resto.
