Minor seminary

Secondary schools preparing boys for Catholic priesthood.

A minor seminary is a secondary school, either day or boarding, established to enroll teenage boys who have expressed an interest in becoming Catholic priests. These institutions, generally Catholic, aim to prepare students academically and spiritually for vocations to the priesthood and religious life. They emerged in societies where literacy was not universal, serving as a means to teach younger boys literacy before they could enter a major seminary.
