Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance
A spiritual successor to Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance.
Last updated
The game features four playable characters from R. A. Salvatore's The Legend of Drizzt novel series.[1][2] It was delisted from digital storefronts and its online servers shut down on February 24, 2025.[3][4] Published by Wizards of the Coast and developed by its subsidiary Tuque Games, Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance is a third-person action role-playing game.[5] The game's setting is the Icewind Dale tundra region, and it includes characters from R. A. Salvatore's The Legend of Drizzt novel series.[1]
Making and release
Neibert described the game's focus as co-op and mechanical mastery seen in games like Dark Souls.[2] Tuque Games released an expansion, Echoes of the Blood War, in 2022.[4] In October of that year, Tuque Games was bought by Wizards of the Coast.[6] A teaser trailer for the game debuted during The Game Awards 2019 in December, which served as its official announcement.[6]
Initially planned for a 2020 launch, the release was pushed back to 2021.[6] Koch Media handled the physical edition's distribution.[6]
What the cited sources add
The Polygon account notes that the game played more like a Gears of War game due to its over-the-shoulder perspective.[4] The same source states that the game shared little with the previous Dark Alliance games.[4] The CNBC report describes the four playable characters as Drizzt Do'Urden, Catti-Brie, Bruenor, and Wulfgar.[2] The Polygon preview states the events of Dark Alliance take place a century before the Frostmaiden tabletop campaign module.[7]
The same interview notes the game is much more action-heavy than the original series.[8] The Polygon review states the game received a "Mixed" rating on Steam.[4]
