Deck of Many Things

A 22-card deck whose every draw unleashes a boon or a disaster.

The Deck of Many Things is a magical card deck in Dungeons & Dragons made up of 22 cards; a positive or negative magical effect takes hold the moment a card is drawn. Created by Rob Kuntz and Gary Gygax, it was introduced in 1975's Supplement I: Greyhawk. The 4th edition box set Madness at Gardmore Abbey (2011) listed it as a heroic-level artifact, it returned in the 5th edition Dungeon Master's Guide (2014) as a legendary magic item, and in 2023 it was redesigned for a box set named after it, The Deck of Many Things, which expanded the physical deck to 66 cards and added the sourcebook The Book of Many Things with 22 chapters themed on the original cards.
