House Corrino is the imperial house of Frank Herbert's Dune universe. The ancient Battle of Corrin, 20 years after the end of the Butlerian Jihad, spawned the Padishah Emperors of House Corrino, who rule the known universe for millennia by controlling the Sardaukar, a brutally efficient military force. By the time of Dune, Imperial power is balanced by the Landsraad, the assembly of noble houses, and the Spacing Guild, which monopolizes interstellar travel and banking, is the third primary power.

Background
The Bene Gesserit have secured a level of control over the current emperor, Shaddam IV, by marrying him to one of their own, who intentionally bears him only daughters. In Dune, Shaddam puts Duke Leto Atreides in control of Arrakis as a trap; after the "Arrakis Affair", Paul Atreides deposes Shaddam and takes his eldest daughter, Princess Irulan, as his wife.
