The Praetor Suit is the iconic armor worn by the Doom Slayer during his crusade against Hell and the Maykrs. In Doom: The Dark Ages, the Slayer acquires this suit—referred to as the Praetor Suit—after the events of the Revelations expansion. The suit is assembled by the Architect, who uses three Ascension Stones as a power source for the new armor. This suit is the same one that the Slayer would later use in his battles against Hell, as seen in Doom (2016) and Doom Eternal. It represents a key piece of his equipment, forged from the remnants of his past and the technology of the Cosmic Realm.

The Praetor Suit's origins are revealed in the Revelations expansion of Doom: The Dark Ages. After the Slayer is defeated by the Henchman and banished to a purgatory beneath Hell's High Council chamber, he is found by the Architect, who nurses him back to health and repairs his weapons and shield. The Architect instructs the Slayer to collect three Ascension Stones, which cleanse his soul and allow him to escape. These stones reveal the source of the Slayer's guilt: back on Earth, when he was a MARSOC operative, he destroyed an enemy bunker beneath a hospital, accidentally killing a young girl. This incident led to his court-martial and reassignment to Phobos. The Architect turns the Ascension Stones into a power source for the Slayer's new armor, the Praetor Suit—the same suit he would use in his later battles against Hell. The Praetor Suit reactivates a portal, allowing the Slayer to return to Argent D'Nur.

The Praetor Suit is acquired during the Revelations expansion of Doom: The Dark Ages. To obtain it, players must complete the purgatory section, collecting all three Ascension Stones. These stones are found in distinct areas of the purgatory, each tied to a memory of the Slayer's past. The first stone is located near the ruins of the hospital on Earth, the second in the bunker beneath it, and the third in the Slayer's own memories of the incident. Once all three stones are collected, the Architect uses them to power the Praetor Suit. The suit provides enhanced protection and allows the Slayer to return to Argent D'Nur via a reactivated portal.
