History
Motagua New Orleans was an American soccer club from New Orleans, Louisiana, that played in the Gulf Coast Premier League. It was founded in 1984 through a partnership among the Serrano, Martinez, and Diaz brothers. The Serrano brothers managed the team from its founding until 1999, during which time it competed in the ISLANO and SELASA leagues. In 1999, Mario "Tony" Martinez became the sole owner and manager.
Dr. John Hamide became a part-owner in 2010 and created a link between Motagua and his PDL side, the Baton Rouge Capitals, giving Capitals players year-round high-level competition to stay fit. The club found success later on, winning the 2015 USASA Region III National Cup and advancing to the semifinals of the 2015 USASA National Cup, where they fell 1-0 to RWB Adria. On February 3, 2016, Motagua New Orleans became the first amateur team from Louisiana to qualify for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup under its current format. The club folded in 2022.
