The 1998 Stanley Cup Final was the championship series of the NHL's 1997–98 season, contested by the defending champion Detroit Red Wings and the Washington Capitals, in their first Final, from June 9 to 16, 1998. The Red Wings swept the Capitals to repeat as champions and win their ninth Stanley Cup.

Background
Detroit won 2–1, 5–4 in overtime, 2–1 and 4–1; Games 1 and 2 were at Joe Louis Arena and Games 3 and 4 at the MCI Center in Washington. Captain Steve Yzerman won the Conn Smythe Trophy. Six days after the 1997 Final, defenceman Vladimir Konstantinov and masseur Sergei Mnatsakanov had suffered serious brain injuries in a limousine crash, and the Red Wings dedicated the 1997–98 season to them. It was the fourth consecutive Final to end in a sweep, and remains the last.
