History

The Chicago Kick's bid to join the MISL for the 2011–12 season fell through on September 27, 2011, when the league announced the team could not find a suitable venue in time. The franchise aimed to return for the following season. On March 11, 2012, the team locked in the Sears Centre as its home. The MISL officially awarded the franchise to owner Dave Mokry on June 22. The club was renamed the Chicago Soul on July 6, with Narciso "Chicho" Cuevas as head coach. Cuevas resigned on September 25 for family reasons, replaced by Manny Rojas. The Soul notched their first win on November 2, beating the Syracuse Silver Knights 13–8. After a 2–7 start, Rojas was fired on December 11 and replaced by Novi Marojević.
