Development
Originally announced in 2014 under the title Final Fantasy Legends: The Space-Time Crystal, this game originally featured protagonists called Tomorrow and Emo before they were renamed to Morrow and Aemo. Takashi Tokita handled direction, writing, and design, drawing from his earlier concepts for the cancelled Chrono Break, a planned sequel to Chrono Trigger. He specifically cited the three-character balance and Aemo’s character settings as elements carried over from that project. The game also looked to classic Super NES titles like Final Fantasy V and VI to create a nostalgic feel. CyDesignation, an art firm started by former Square Enix artists, provided the character designs and illustrations. Naoshi Mizuta composed and produced the soundtrack, which contains over fifty tracks, with the main theme “Timeless Tomorrow” sung by Lia. Mizuta aimed to give each time period its own distinct musical identity. The game launched as a free-to-play title with in-app purchases, released in downloadable segments. Those who pre-registered earned a white chocobo signet. Cameo appearances include Oersted the knight from Live A Live and a spell book from The Irregular at Magic High School.
