History
K-Ci & JoJo first gained recognition as members of a family gospel quartet, Little Cedric and the Hailey Singers, which released three albums on the AIR label: I'm Alright Now in 1983, Jesus Saves (number 4 on the Billboard Gospel chart in 1984), and God's Blessings (number 22 in 1985). In 1988 they joined brothers Donald "DeVanté Swing" DeGrate and Dalvin "Mr. Dalvin" DeGrate to form Jodeci. The duo's first independent work came in 1992 when K-Ci recorded a duet with Mary J. Blige on her debut album What's the 411?.
K-Ci also covered Bobby Womack's "If You Think You're Lonely Now" for the 1994 film Jason's Lyric. In early 1996 they teamed up for "How Could You" for the movie Bulletproof. By July 1996 they were featured on 2Pac's number-one hit "How Do U Want It" and also appeared on his song "Toss It Up". From 1996 to 1997 they turned their side project into a full album, Love Always, released June 17, 1997.
The album produced two top-ten R&B hits—"You Bring Me Up" and "Last Night's Letter"—before the third single, "All My Life," became a number-one Hot 100 hit for three weeks. Love Always sold four million copies and put Jodeci's reunion on hold. During its recording they also appeared on "I Care 'Bout You" as part of the supergroup Milestone for the Soul Food soundtrack. In 1998 they recorded "Money Can't Buy You Love" for the film The Players Club.
