Career

Dante Jones grew up in Denver, Colorado, and Andrew Neely was raised in Washington, D.C. The pair came together as a duo in Los Angeles in 2015. Their first release, an extended play called Nü Religion, came out on October 13, 2015, through Mind of a Genius Records and Warner Bros. Records. The three-track project earned positive reviews from critics and attracted the attention of producer Timbaland. In an interview with The Fader, Drew explained that Nü Religion represented a fresh mindset, blending an off-center approach to both life and music into something cohesive and enjoyable.

On October 22, 2015, the collaborative single "Working for It" with Zhu and Skrillex dropped, reaching number 30 in Australia and number 71 in the United Kingdom. The track later appeared on Zhu's EP Genesis Series and his debut album Generationwhy. At the start of 2016, They joined Bryson Tiller as an opening act on his Trapsoul Tour. That summer, they put out the singles "Say When" and "Deep End," both of which landed on the Billboard Twitter Emerging Artists chart.

On August 8, 2016, The Guardian named them "New band of the week." In October 2016, Complex magazine included the duo on its list of the best new musicians across America for that year. Their debut studio album, Nü Religion: Hyena, arrived on February 24, 2017, and they capped off a breakthrough year with a performance at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. In 2018, They opened for 6LACK on his From East Atlanta with Love tour and released the collaborative EP Fireside, which featured contributions from Wiz Khalifa, Jessie Reyez, Jeremih, Vic Mensa, Ty Dolla Sign, and Gallant.

The EP drew from 90s R&B, soul, trap, and emo rap, a guitar-driven style of hip hop. After signing with Avant Garden Records, They returned in June 2020 with the single "Count Me In," a preview of their upcoming album The Amanda Tape. The following month, they teamed up with Tinashe for the throwback R&B track "Play Fight," which served as the second single from that album.
