Background

To meet the alliance, John Kreese calls in his old friend Terry Silver, and in doing so lets loose a bigger threat than he bargained for. Netflix had renewed the show in October 2020, before the third season aired, after YouTube passed on a fourth season; Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg returned as writers and executive producers through Counterbalance Entertainment, with Will Smith, James Lassiter and Caleeb Pinkett producing through Overbrook Entertainment and Ralph Macchio and William Zabka as co-executive producers.

Twelve actors star: nine from the previous season, two promoted after recurring, and Thomas Ian Griffith back from the films as Silver. Guests include Yuji Okumoto as Chozen Toguchi, Barrett Carnahan and Nick Marini as the young Kreese and Silver, and Carrie Underwood as herself. Filming took place in early 2021.

Two soundtrack albums followed on January 7, 2022. Reviews were positive, the season topped Netflix's global viewership charts within three days, and a DVD came out on September 13, 2022, days after the fifth season premiered.
