The orbs of happiness that make Clannad's miracle possible.
Light orbs are a source of power found in Hikarizaka and in the Illusionary World. One is created whenever Tomoya Okazaki, or perhaps anyone, helps someone else reach happiness by fulfilling a goal, and together the orbs can make miracles happen.

Background
In the visual novel, finishing a heroine's story earns the player an orb of light; eight of them unlock the After Story arc, and all 13 are needed for the true ending, in which Nagisa can be saved. In the anime the orbs follow three rules. They do exactly what is asked and nothing more: when Misae asks Katsuki to love her forever he returns to his true form, a cat, and when Tomoya wishes Nagisa and Ushio back he is sent back to the day Ushio was born. They only grant wishes that are truly wanted, so Tomoya's wish never to have met Nagisa goes unanswered. And children carry their parents' hopes, which is why Ushio, the sum of the orbs Tomoya and Nagisa shared, can grant his wish.
