Illusionary World
A lonely world where a young girl builds a body from junk, alongside robotic beings.
The Illusionary World is a setting glimpsed throughout the story of Clannad. This world is not completely devoid of life: while a young girl is the only humanoid inhabitant, it also contains robotic or mechanical beings such as the Garbage Dolls. The girl later makes a body out of junk pieces through which the player can interact with her. The world appears in brief segments that intercut the main narrative, showing a barren landscape with these few inhabitants.
Lore & Background
The Illusionary World is shown as a place where a young girl is the only humanoid inhabitant, though robotic beings like the Garbage Dolls also exist. She creates a body for herself out of junk pieces, allowing the player character to interact with her. The world is connected to the main story through the collection of orbs of light: After Story is unlocked by completing the School Life routes, not by collecting eight lights. One of the lights disappears during School Life but reappears in After Story. To view the true ending, the requirement varies by version (e.g., 12 or 8 lights in later releases), so 13 is not universally accurate. There is no official documentation confirming that the lights were originally meant to be usable items; that claim appears speculative.
Reader's Guide
The Illusionary World appears as a recurring motif in Clannad. It is a barren place with no life except for a young girl who builds a body from junk. The world is tied to the game's light-collection mechanic: obtaining eight lights unlocks After Story, and collecting all 13 lights is required for the true ending. One light disappears during School Life but reappears in After Story. The lights were originally intended to be usable items, but this was simplified to keep focus on the story.
