Connect 4x4
Connect Four with a double grid, blockers and room for up to four players.
Last updated
Connect 4x4, said aloud as Connect Four by Four, is a strategy game from Milton Bradley that first appeared in 2009. It keeps the aim of the original Connect Four: drop pieces into an upright grid and be the first to get four of your colour in a line, whether across, up and down, or on a slant. What changes is the board and the pieces. The game uses a grid that is two spaces deep, adds a second kind of piece called a blocker, and lets as many as four people play in one game, pushing players to think in three dimensions.
Background
Milton Bradley released Connect 4x4 in 2009 as a follow-up to Connect Four. The frame stands on its edge and measures seven spaces across, six spaces tall and two spaces deep, with openings along the top where pieces are dropped.
At the start, each player picks a colour and puts that set of checkers to one side. There are two piece types: ordinary checkers, which have a hole through the middle, and blockers, made from two discs linked by a short bar. On a turn, a player chooses which kind of piece to use and drops it in; it falls until it lands on the lowest empty space in that column.
