The Grape Escape
A 1991 board game featuring clay grapes and destructive obstacles.
Last updated
The Grape Escape is a board game released in 1992 by Parker Brothers (now Hasbro) and licensed by Rehtmeyer Inc. It was designed to entertain younger audiences aged 5 and up. The game involved maneuvering clay playing pieces made of colored Grape Goop (Play-Doh) through plastic obstacles that could disfigure or decapitate the pieces, with destruction sometimes leading to re-molding and restarting.
Background
The Grape Escape consisted of playing pieces made from various colored Grape Goop (Play-Doh) fashioned after grape-like action figures. Gameplay involved rolling a die and moving a grape piece along a factory conveyor belt style board. Hazard stations included crank/rubber-band-operated scissors, a steam roller, a large saw blade, and a grape stomping boot activated by lever and rubber band. Landing on certain spaces or rolling 'Turn Crank' allowed players to operate apparatuses to destroy opponents' grapes, forcing re-molding and restarting.
