Background
Tinker's blast was the first World Series home run since Patsy Dougherty's in 1903. RBI singles by Jimmy Sheckard and Johnny Evers, an RBI triple by Frank Schulte and a wild pitch to Frank Chance brought in the other runs; the Tigers avoided a shutout when Davy Jones walked and scored on Ty Cobb's single in the ninth. Orval Overall's complete-game win took just 90 minutes, and the Cubs won the Series in five games.
