1972 NBA playoffs
Lakers beat Knicks in five for first LA title.
The 1972 NBA playoffs concluded with the Los Angeles Lakers defeating the New York Knicks in five games in the NBA Finals. Wilt Chamberlain was named NBA Finals MVP. The Lakers finished the regular season with a 69–13 record, the best in NBA history at that time, and won their first title since moving from Minneapolis. The Lakers' victory was their first NBA Finals win in nine appearances without Elgin Baylor, who had retired nine games into the season due to knee problems. The Conference Semifinals series between the Bullets and Knicks was the last NBA playoff series where the team with the inferior regular season record held home-court advantage based on division champion status.
