1976 NFL draft
Final 17-round NFL draft; expansion teams selected first.
The 1976 NFL draft was held April 8–9, 1976, at the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City. It lasted 17 rounds, the final draft to do so, and was the first to officially designate the last pick as 'Mr. Irrelevant'. The expansion Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Seattle Seahawks made the first two selections, with the Buccaneers winning a draw for the first overall pick and choosing defensive tackle Lee Roy Selmon. The draft was postponed from its original February 3–4 date due to a lawsuit filed by the Seahawks and Buccaneers owners against the players' union.
