Background
Aston Villa were making their first FA Cup final appearance since winning it in 1957. After a poor first half the match was brighter in the second, and Dennis Wise was named man of the match. Wembley closed five months later; the final moved to the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff for six years before returning to the rebuilt Wembley in 2007, when Chelsea won again.
