War Devil

A vengeful Fiend seeking revenge against Chainsaw Man while orchestrating an eternal conflict.

The War Devil, known as Yoru, is a powerful entity born from humanity's collective fear of war. In the series, this devil forms a contract with high school student Asa Mitaka after she is killed by a classmate associated with the Justice Devil. Unlike her previous human form, Asa becomes a Fiend with Yoru inhabiting her body, forcing her into a pact to hunt down Chainsaw Man for revenge due to the War Devil's near-destruction in the past. While Yoru secretly plans to revive the Nuclear Weapons Devil and cause infinite war by having Pochita erase death, she also manipulates events to offer Denji a new deal: defeat the Death Devil or be transformed.

Lore & Background

Yoru's existence is defined by her contract with Asa Mitaka, whom she resurrects as a Fiend. The War Devil's primary motivation stems from the fact that the Chainsaw Devil nearly destroyed her in the past, erasing her concept and causing her to seek revenge. This drive leads Yoru to manipulate various characters, including Fami (who claims to be the Famine Devil) and Barem Bridge of the Chainsaw Man Church. The War Devil's power grows as humanity's fear of war increases, allowing her to offer deals that leverage this fear. For instance, she proposes a deal where Denji must defeat the Death Devil to earn Asa's affection, or face transformation herself.
