Lore & Background

By feeding the devil her own blood and emotions, Kobeni gains access to the ability to transform into other humans instantly, effectively erasing her identity to assume new faces. This power allows her to infiltrate enemy lines, deceive foes, and even impersonate allies in moments of crisis. While she often appears cowardly or incompetent, her actions frequently reveal a dark pragmatism where she sacrifices her own dignity or morality solely to ensure her continued existence.

Reader's Guide

Kobeni Higashiyama originates as a terrified civilian caught in the crossfire before being forcibly recruited into Public Safety. Her personality is dominated by crippling anxiety and an obsessive fear of death, which often causes her to freeze or act irrationally during combat. This pact grants her the power to transform into any human she has seen, allowing for infiltration and deception. Throughout the Public Safety Arc, Kobeni serves as a comic relief figure whose incompetence often masks a deep, desperate cunning.

She struggles to fit in with Denji's chaotic energy and Power's arrogance, frequently resorting to extreme measures just to stay alive. Her evolution accelerates during the Hell Arc, where her trauma hardens into a grim resolve. She learns that to survive the brutal world of Devils, she must abandon her humanity temporarily, becoming a chameleon who mirrors the violence around her.
