Gameplay
Major Damage is a side-scrolling run and gun game presented from a 2.5D perspective, with 3D environments but gameplay on a 2D plane. Players move a selected character left and right, jump across platforms, and shoot in 16 directions against enemies. Due to its unfinished state, only a determined number of levels are playable, and the game is prone to glitches and game-crashing bugs. Players begin with a set number of lives and can sustain several hits before dying; losing all lives ends the game.
History
Major Damage was first shown to the video game press and attendees at E3 1996 early in development, and was one of several game projects under development by Capcom Digital Studios for the PlayStation and Sega Saturn. It was later previewed in video game magazines that touted key components before launch, with plans for a 1996 to 1997 release. Development was scrapped the next year due to Capcom restructuring their US division. Aero the Acro-Bat creator David Siller, brought as head of the US development team, later stated cancellation reasons included lack of progress, not meeting expectations, and the game being bad. A former Capcom level designer stated the company pitched the game to Sony Computer Entertainment for an exclusive PlayStation release, but Sony declined, possibly due to resemblance with Blasto.
