Gameplay

Power Quest blends role-playing and fighting genres. The player explores an overworld town, and upon encountering characters, dialogue leads to a one-on-one fighting battle. Experience is gained by buying new parts for the robot model. Progress requires challenging a set number of opponents before special events, such as tournaments or boss fights, are triggered. The game uses a password system to save parts, money, and the current model.

Plot

Summer vacation begins for the unnamed player character and his friend Louis. Louis hears of an upcoming tournament and is excited, but notes the player cannot afford a model. At the player's house, his mother reveals he won a model contest, with the grand prize being one model of his choice. The two decide to enter the tournament. To prepare, they battle local modelers. They hear rumors of the Hyena Gang, who use underhanded tricks to steal money. The player defeats several gang members, who warn that their boss is tougher. At the playground, the player fights Colonel, a high-ranking member, then the leader General. General has the Scientist activate a machine, then defeats the player. The player visits a shop, where the owner explains the gang uses radio waves to disrupt robot control. He provides a special paint to block the waves. The player returns, defeats General, and the Hyena Gang retreats. Later, a girl named Ann challenges the player; Louis loses quickly and flees. Ann comments on men's fragility, and another girl says Ann has never lost to a boy in a robot fight.
