History
Into Eternity was formed in 1996 by Tim Roth, Scott Krall, and Jim Austin. Their self-titled independent album was released in 1999 with the addition of Chris Eisler and Chris McDougall. The band signed with Century Media Records the following year and re-released that debut. Their second album, Dead or Dreaming, came out in 2001 and showed a stronger blend of progressive and death metal.
This direction continued on Buried in Oblivion (2004) and The Scattering of Ashes (2006). The Scattering of Ashes sold just over 2,000 copies in the US during its first week according to Soundscan. Into Eternity performed on Gigantour 2006, which began in Boise, Idaho, on September 6, 2006. In summer 2007 they toured with Redemption supporting Dream Theater on the North American leg of the Chaos in Motion tour.
The concept album The Incurable Tragedy was released in Europe on August 25, 2008, and in North America on September 2, 2008. Drummer Bryan Newbury joined the band on March 9, 2011. Also in 2011, Stu Block joined Iced Earth. Amanda Kiernan became the band's new vocalist in February 2012.
Later that year, Into Eternity began demoing new material with both Block and Kiernan. Former guitarist Rob Doherty died on May 4, 2012, at age 41. Former drummer Adam Sagan died from cancer on December 5, 2016, at age 35. In a late 2013 interview, Tim Roth confirmed Stu Block was no longer a member and that Amanda Kiernan would continue as full-time vocalist.
Guitarist Justin Bender announced his departure in May 2014, with Matt Cuthbertson of Untimely Demise replacing him. Bender also stated that the untitled sixth studio album was in post-production. On June 15, 2015, Into Eternity signed a worldwide deal with Italian label Kolony Records. The sixth album, The Sirens, was planned for late 2015 but after delays was announced for release on October 26, 2018. In 2021, after leaving Iced Earth, Stu Block returned to share vocal duties with Amanda Kiernan.
Musical style
Into Eternity's music incorporates classic or melodic metal, thrashing riffs, neo-classical composition, power metal-style clean vocals, death growls, black metal shrieking, fast death metal drumming with blast beats, and occasional acoustic guitar.
