Plot

In Metrotown, a group calling itself the League of Super Evil, or L.O.S.E., claims to be supervillains bent on conquering their neighborhood and eventually the world. In reality, their schemes are limited to childish pranks, like sticking a penny to a chair. Unlike their neighbors in ordinary suburban homes, the League operates from a secret evil lair. They constantly clash with more serious and capable villains, such as Skullossus, and must evade the local residential superheroes who patrol the area.

Characters

The League of Super Evil (L.O.S.E.) are the titular main protagonists. Voltar (voiced by Scott McNeil) is the short, self-proclaimed leader and commander, not very bright, who takes Doktor Frogg's ideas as his own and thinks his pranks are "evil plans". He has a nemesis named Bundlington Von Pantaloon from Kiddy College, and was once a heroic hall monitor who became a supervillain after humiliation by Glory Guy. Doktor Frogg (voiced by Lee Tockar) is a self-proclaimed mad scientist and inventor with mechanical hands, often tormented by Doomageddon, and aspires to be a true villain.

Red Menace (voiced by Colin Murdock) is the strong, happy-go-lucky member, best friends with Doomageddon, and has destructive anger issues when losing a game. Doomageddon is a doomhound from another dimension who torments Doktor Frogg and can teleport, breathe fire, change size, levitate, turn invisible, walk on walls, and tear holes through time and space. Henchbot #17 and Henchbot #32 are robotic servants who easily fall apart. Other supervillains include Skullossus (voiced by Colin Murdock), the top supervillain in Metrotown who holds 114 evil world records; his robotic foot soldiers the Skullmandos; The Cougar (voiced by Tabitha St. Germain), an elderly cat-themed super-thief who is flirtatious; her elderly henchwomen the Granny Goons; Linemaster (voiced by Ian James Corlett), a supervillain obsessed with being first in line who can summon Linebots and is held captive in the Halls of Glory; and the Linebots, his robotic minions.

Production

The series was first announced in October 2006, but the initial concept looked quite different. Voltar was originally called The Great Voltar and wore a green and yellow costume instead of red. Doktor Frogg had a steel jaw and no goggles. Red Menace was conceived as a former Soviet supervillain, wearing a thick red fur coat and a fur hat with the Red Star. Doomageddon was not part of the original plan; instead, a crawling hooded character was described as having "the spirit of a hyperactive Neanderthal toddler." The show's title was simply League of Evil at first.

Broadcast and release

The animated series League of Super Evil first aired in the United States on Cartoon Network on March 5, 2009, at 9:00 P.M., two days before its Canadian debut on YTV. In Canada, it premiered on March 7, 2009, as part of the Saturday morning Crunch block at 10:30 A.M. The show later reached Latin America via Disney XD on June 4, 2011, and was broadcast in the UK on CBBC, in Australia on ABC1 and ABC3, and internationally across Cartoon Network, Disney XD, and Nickelodeon. As of 2024, the series is available for streaming on services including Amazon Prime Video, Tubi, The Roku Channel, YouTube TV, and YouTube.
