Potentials

Potentials, or Potential Slayers, are the ordinary girls around the world who may one day be called as the Slayer in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, a by-product of the Shadow Men's spell that created the first Slayer. When a Slayer dies, one Potential, seemingly chosen at random, gains the Slayer's powers. The Watchers' Council tries to find and train Potentials before they are called, sometimes locating them as babies, but does not always manage it. Potentials already have innate combat skill before being called, as Amanda shows when she defeats a vampire in the episode "Potential". In 2003 Willow Rosenberg tapped the essence of the Scythe in a spell that called every living Potential at once, ending the legacy of one girl in all the world.
